Rihanna is a force to be reckoned with. Having just turned 25 years old the Barbadian singer has had 7 top albums in 7 years, a best-selling perfume, appeared in a movie and is now a fashion designer.

Rihanna has teamed up with RiverIsland to bring out a spring/summer collection hotly anticipated by the singer’s fans and the fashion industry.

Rihanna described the collection as ‘clothes for young women with sassy personalities’ and offers a selection of plain cami tops, basic t-shirts, vest tops in monochrome colours and had a 90’s hip hop grunge feel to it.

The collection received mixed reviews from critics who labelled it ‘uninspiring and unattractive’ and too pricey for young fashionistas.

The line was showcased in an abandoned Central London post office where Rihanna made a brief appearance at the end of the show. Following a flurry of media attention the collection was available on the brand’s website at 1am. On Oxford Street at RiverIsland’s flagship store hordes of fans lined the streets ready to get their hands on the goods. Having read reviews of the collection there appears to be a particular item that has been popular than others.

1.  Use less product

Brush your hair through before you wash it so the shampoo will work evenly through the hair. You should only be using a small amount of shampoo, about the size of a 10 pence piece, anymore it will weigh down your hair and make it greasy.

2.  Colouring

Hairdressers charge a small fortune to colour your hair and there are some great home colour kits that provide you with great results at a great price.

3 Look for offers

4. Look after your hair

If you look after your hair your hair won’t break and you won’t need to visit the hairdresser as regularly for trims. Use a wide tooth comb when hair is soaking wet to prevent breakage. Leaving your hair to dry naturally will also give your hair a break from heat that is damaging to your hair.

5. Don’t believe the hype

Magazines often tell us how often it is to fork out a lot of money on expensive shampoos but actually many expensive shampoos use different chemicals that’s more damaging than beneficial to your hair. A regular shampoo brand will suffice.

6. Olive oil

No fear if you’ve ran out of conditioner, pour a cupful and warm it in the microwave with 1 minute and smooth through dry hair. Wrap your hair in a warm towel and leave for twenty minutes. Shampoo out and enjoy silky smooth hair!

Books vs Films

I’ve asked myself the same question a number of times; why aren’t theatrical releases as good as the books they’re based on?

Of course there have been a small number of films that can almost be dismissed from this category, Harry Potter and The Lord of the Rings for instance, but watching a film just doesn’t seem to fill me with the emotion and fixation that a book does.

I recently ventured out to watch the theatrical adaptation of Nicolas Spark’s ‘Safe Haven.’ The film has currently culminated over £45 million pound at the box office and although I can admit to shedding a few tears as the credits rolled, I left feeling somewhat disappointed; a feeling not uncommon when discussing this area.

I understand that the information given in a novel is hard to cram into a two hour feature. What I don’t understand is why with today’s technological innovation is it still so hard to offer a satisfactory version of the much loved books.

In all honesty, what I think it comes down to is the fact that each individual creates their own version of what is written on the pages of much loved books, whether it be the appearance of a much loved character or a fictitious town.

For the readers of these books, the story has already been told and know same person will see it the same.
